Project ‘GreenHands' is an initiative taken by Isha Foundation, a volunteer-run international non profit organisation, to educate people and to spread awareness among people about the importance of green belts and tree plantation.
Isha Foundation has done partnership with Suzlon Energy and EADS India Limited to support Project ‘GreenHands'. Well this project has caused some stir and Isha foundation has won India’s prestigious environmental award, the “Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar” by the Government of India on June 5th 2010 from the former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
You can join this Project at ‘GreenHands'. From the description of their project, it is projected that they are working on climate change and biodiversity loss, global warming, water conservation, soil conservation and planting trees to build green belts for maintaining ecosystem. Project GreenHands is a volunteer driven project and you can participate at your own level.
I personally feel that if every one of will plant a tree in our own homes, we can make a difference. Think, India has a population of more than one billion and if only half of us will plant a tree, we will have more than 50 Crore new trees. This was just an example. We can change the map.
The only thing needed is the motivation and the feeling of responsibility towards our mother earth.
