In one of my recent article “
The facts behind rising oil prices and consumption” I had stated the reasons and facts about the rising oil prices and its consumption. In this article I will list the top 10 oil consuming countries in the world in year 2009. Here is the list of top 10 oil consuming nations in the world:
Position | Country | Consumption in Million Barrels per Day (MBD) |
1 | United States | 20,698,000 |
2 | China | 7,855,000 |
3 | Japan | 5,041,000 |
4 | India | 2,748,000 |
5 | Russia | 2,699,000 |
6 | Germany | 2,393,000 |
7 | South Korea | 2,371,000 |
8 | Canada | 2,303,000 |
9 | Brazil | 2,192,000 |
10 | Saudi Arabia | 2,154,000 |
11 | Mexico | 2,024,000 |
12 | France | 1,919,000 |
13 | Italy | 1,745,000 |
14 | United Kingdom | 1,696,000 |
15 | Iran | 1,621,000 |
As seen from the list, United states topped the list of top 15 oil consuming countries in the world in year 2009 with the consumption rate of 20,698,000 Million Barrels per Day. China followed United states with consumption rate of 7,855,000 Million Barrels per Day followed by Japan and India with oil consumption rates of 5,041,000 & 2,748,000 Million Barrels per Day respectively.
As the consumption of oil is progressively increasing due to the addition of more and more vehicles onto the roads every day and need for oil in the energy sector, it is estimated that the demand will shortly overshoot the supply. It is already accepted by the scientists community that most of the developed and some developing countries have already reached their peak oil production level.
So its time to think about switching to renewable energy resources and limit the use of fossil fuels to power our needs.
